Getting Baby to Sleep Through the Night

Maggie was born a good sleeper. From the beginning she slept for big chunks of time leaving me more or less well rested (for a new mommy anyways). Since then we have created a monster.

At about 5 months she started having problems and would get up several times a night to eat. After much deliberation Patrick and I decided to "Ferberize". I bought Dr Ferber's book and read it cover to cover, taking notes and making a chart for Maggie's sleep patterns. He promised a sleeping baby--twelve hours worth within 4 days, one week max. Ha!!

We followed that guys advice to the last detail. TWELVE days later we were frazzled, exhausted, and further from a good nights sleep than ever. In essence, I felt like we'd basically tormented our daughter for nothing! And the wonderful Dr Ferber basically says that if it didn't work you must have done it wrong. How infuriating!

Enter Charlotte. My loving sister sent us a book that did the trick. Not much different (nuts and bolts-wise) than Ferber but more gradual and kind to both baby AND parents. It worked.

January brought a plague upon us and we all were sick most of the month--sleep disruption. We're starting over--again!!

The weekend was difficult but last night....success! She went down at 7:30 and started to stir at 6am. Oh, I pray this is for keeps!
