Sharing Discovery Days

Now that my good friend Micaela is a freshly minted stay at home mom, we decided to invite her and dear Addy along for our regular Discovery Days. We had loads of fun!

I Finally Relented

I've been feeling awful about not getting Maggie more outdoor time before winter takes over. I finally gave in and went to our local park. She really did enjoy it!

That's a stick of sunscreen--not a big tube of chapstick like Maggie thinks it is. She probably ingested some of it for the sake of me getting a shot of it. Oh well...

Frosting

I made brownies and chocolate frosting (from scratch!) for our weekly dinner with Marisa and Owen. I let Maggie lick the spatula. She didn't understand what it was at first and refused. She reluctantly stuck out her tongue and took a tiny taste before snatching the spatula right out of my hand!

I didn't take any pics at dinner (Marisa's house) but Owen and Maggie were hilarious! They truly get along smashingly. They played hide and go seek (counting and hiding like big kids), they sang songs together, they got creative and made a make-shift slide. We really enjoyed how cute they were together.

Longmont Museum

I didn't take any pictures of Maggie at Discovery Days but afterwards we wandered around the museum and I did get some shots.

She loves the museum. She asks for it almost every day.

Just Bare With Me Here

I know I've been overly excited about Maggie's art lately but I can't help it. I'm such a first time mom! Here is a picture of a "mosaic" we made. Maggie wanted a house on it and found the scraps in shapes that work and then drew the door and two windows--all by herself! I didn't teach her anything about doors windows, etc. See how she even tried to put a door knob on the door??

Weekend Review

Oh, we are so boring these days. Another weekend of sitting around being lazy. Really lazy.

The one item on the agenda was to move Maggie to a big-girl bed. No more crib. She danced around her room singing "big girl bed, big girl bed...." while we disassembled the crib. The transition was a huge success. We had one nap (her first in the bed) where she was just too excited to sleep and after about an hour we went in to find her shoes all lined up on her bed and her wearing a pair.

These were the shoes she chose to wear rather than line up. If you look closely you can see how she colored on them. She was SO proud of her handy work. Luckily they are last years shoes and are a little small for her. If they were a new pair I would have been so mad!

Artistic Skills Improve

We went to another Terrific Twos class the other day and were assigned a craft project about our family. I helped her glue the people on the page and write the names on (oh, and the silly sun at the top) but Maggie did the faces all by herself--no coaching or anything. Boy, was I proud.

She had her first tea party and totally melted my heart.

And she rocked one of the dolly's to sleep. She even wrapped it up in her own beloved "pink mimi".

I Have A Problem...

Since the election is looming, and I've clarified my position on certain points, I figured it was time to re-take the test on GlassBooth.com. I originally posted on it HERE.

Um, I'm 70% similar with John McCain....and 65% similar to Obama. Huh!?! How did THAT happen?

All those ads, all the talk in the media. For a 5% difference?

I'm most unlike McCain on Environment & Energy and Abortion & Birth Control. I'm most unlike Obama on Trade & Economics and Taxes & Budget. I guess the combination of what I think is important and by what degree (and my positions on those topics) got me that statistical result but it sure didn't tell me how to vote.

I think I need to use a few more sites to narrow my choice here. Thanks GlassBooth...for nothing.

Jamba Juice

I've been craving Jamba Juice lately. I've learned Maggie LOVES Jamba Juice. She just keeps asking for "more sips" and the huge cup ends up in her lap.

Discovery Days

Longmont Museum hosts Discovery Days for kids. It's a great program that allows kids to play, make crafts, learn new things, etc. WE.LOVE.IT.

As fall/winter sets in and we're left without very many outdoor options, this will be where you will find us. It's great to give Maggie the opportunity to play with glue, paint, etc. without messing up my own house!

Weekend Review

Another way relaxing weekend (translation: lazy, lazy, lazy).
I didn't cook--we ate Wendy's. Maggie loved the frosty. She plopped herself down on top of her dad to get as much as she could. She was eating it so fast she gave herself a head freeze. It made her cry for a second but it was kinda funny. Patrick had to slow down the pace after that.

We painted a little. After several experiences with watercolors I've finally relented and allowed her to have a set at home (I'm such a bad mommy--wanting to avoid a messy clean up).

Maggie has finally decided baby dolls aren't so bad. This one (purchased to teach her how to pee-pee in the potty (didn't work)) was getting sung to and rocked. I wish this was a video instead of a still pic--she was singing Rock-a-Bye Baby and swaying with her.

Such A Girl

The makeup obsession grows.

Maggie thinks Dora needs a little bit of color too:

Terrific Twos

I signed Maggie and I up for a class through the city--Terrific Twos. I usually end up calling it the Terrible Twos and have to correct myself. We've been to one so far (another tomorrow) and we love it! I'm thrilled to have a regular thing to do each Friday morning.

We start with a little free play time then move to circle time (songs, sharing, stories, etc). We then do a craft and end with another free play. I think we're really going to enjoy this. I might even sign us up for the next one.

Ellens Visit

Oh, it was so very nice to have my sister Ellen come to visit us! I did my best to show her a good time. We ate a lot (apparently eating is what I classify as most fun), we talked a lot, laughed a lot, and generally enjoyed our time together.
Maggie was demanding of Ellen's attention.

On Saturday we made the drive up to Estes Park to show Ellen the "moutnains" and stumbled upon the Scottish Festival! Ellen has wanted to attend the festival for years and we just happened to pick this date to see Estes. It was LOADS of fun.

We listened to good music (you can't really tell in the picture but the band are all wearing their kilts). Maggie danced like crazy once Patrick put her down.

There were lots of bag pipe bands and such. Super cool.

We saw some dance competitions.

We saw and heard so much more but most of my pictures didn't really turn out. Bummer. Here are some pics I found out in cyberspace to give you a better idea of what we did.

Choking Hazard

Maggie tried to copy her dad and wear his phone headset (and phone charger). Can we say choking hazard?

Boulder Reservoir

Everyone calls it the Boulder Rez. Anyway, we had a mommy group activity there last Thursday. Lot of fun. Not too hot as you can now feel the fall weather coming.

Ellen Arrives Today

My sister Ellen is coming to visit us. I'm SO thrilled to have her here! Normally Ellen comes with another family guest--either my mom, or my sisters, etc. I rarely get her alone.
In honor of her solo visit I thought I'd post some pics of us as kids.

I'm pretty sure the pic of me with the hat is shortly after we played "barber" and Ellen cut all my hair off. I say that because my bangs look a little (just a snitch)....off.

Here's a photo of Ellen holding Maggie at about 2 weeks old.

Weekend Review: Labor Day

We had a VERY mild weekend at home watching videos and relaxing. Here are some random shots I took (or Patrick took) of the weekend.

WOW Museum

I finally visted the WOW Museum in Lafayette! I'd been hearing about it for a while but somehow never could go when my mommy groups planned. I am so glad we finally went! It was a really cute place.

Maggie's friends Alex and Brooke were there to share in the fun. Alex and Maggie explored a lot together.

And this pic is SO cute. I stole it from Vicki's blog (check out her post about the WOW Museum HERE).
