Weekend Review: Dreary Rain and Cold

Am I the only one that can barely make it through the week?...we ordered pizza for dinner on Friday.

Saturday morning was a typical lazy weekend morning for us. Maggie is sitting on everything now.
We had a lot to do around the house so poor Maggie was trapped inside all day. She made the best of it of course...crawling where she's not supposed to be, rearranging the fridge every time I opened it, etc.
I didn't realize Patrick had been working with Maggie on what a rooster says but today she picked up the little rooster that belongs to our farm set, handed it to me and clearly said "cocka" (short for cock-a-doodle-do). That was a fun surprise. Patrick acted like he'd heard it before (which he probably had and just wanted me to feel like I'd caught the first time).
She also surprised us by learning the sign for "more" in one sitting. She wanted more grapes and I asked if she wanted more and did the sign--she copied and then continued to do it each time she wanted more grapes. I'd not tried any signs with her so I was super impressed with my little baby!

Catch Up

Since I didn't post the last days of this week I'll break my "no posting on the weekends" rule and add some stuff today.
Sandstone Ranch is my favorite park but it's furthest from our house.

The barn we bought a while ago has become a new favorite.

And any toy that she can play with around her dad is the best.

More Utah Pictures

Julie was the official photographer of our trip to Utah and she sent me the pictures so I can post some here.

Meredith and Maggie hanging out.
For sister weekend we stayed at The Homestead in Midway. It was so beautiful. We had the camera on this tiny little table on our deck. For some reason we thought it was lower than it was and we all bent down for the shot.
We had lunch at an absolutely adorable tea house in Midway

Home Coming

Maggie and her dad had a great time while I was in Utah for Sister Weekend. It was SO great to see them at the airport and give them hugs and kisses. Of course her dad managed to find some sports wear for his daughter to wear. The Cleveland Indians have (apparently) made it to the playoffs so Patrick immediately went out and ordered us all Indians clothing to show our support.

Hanging Out at Brians House

We tried to spend as much time with the boys (Brian and Randy) as possible before Patrick and Maggie headed back to Colorado. Because of Brians beard Maggie was a little nervous but we worked through it. Here's Ellen, Maggie, and Brian sharing a laugh.

We got Maggie to warm up to Bri by telling her to scratch his beard.
I couldn't resist taking a picture of the kitchen window in their condo. BYU plate, Camel tobacco tin, shot glass, beer mug, Nine Inch Nails logo....and a statue of Christ. Just about says it all, eh?
Brian and Randy chatting up their brothers-in-law, Brett and Patrick.
Randy has a totally scary dog who does NOT like strangers--Snoopy. He puts Snoopy in the back yard for guests. The dog came right up to the glass door and barked wildly and Maggie couldn't get enouhg of him. No fear at all of the hysterical dog that wanted to eat her on the other side of the glass.
Ruby gave Maggie a ride in one of the million wheelchairs the boys own. Most of us sit in wheel chairs when we come to visit.
Julie was snapping lots of pictures too. She took one of them sitting together and showed it to Maggie. Can you tell how happy she is to see how the picture turned out?

Temple Square

Patrick and I got to check out temple square in SLC while in Utah. We left Maggie with Julie so we had plenty of time to wander. It was conference weekend so it was a bit crowded. We took some tours and then ate at the Joseph Smith building. We had a great table overlooking the temple and ate yummy "Mormon" food as Patrick put it.

Brian and Sister Weekend

I've been in Utah for a few days now. We came to visit Brian and to have our Sister Weekend. I'm with my sisters now and will blog like crazy when I get home on Wed. Until then you can check out a picture of Maggie and Brian and one of the sisters starting their weekend of fun.

Daddy Loves Me

Gourds are apparently big fun.

But not as fuuuuuuuun as Daddy.
Until she ends up at the door crying for him to take her out to play and he says no.

She Needed This!

A park...finally.
Maggie is not sure about the giant frog.

But she warms up:
You can't really tell from the picture (it's so small) but she has one finger up and she's lecturing a kid about to go down the slide.
On the way home I had a PMS attack and stopped at the store for some Hostess chocolate cupcakes. I learned Maggie will now beg for anything I'm eating. See the cupcake left over on her mouth?

While at the grocery store the elderly gentleman at the front area gave Maggie a balloon.

Mommy Book Group

My friend Marissa is hosting a mommy n me event: Book Group. The book she picked was one that Micaela had loaned me a few weeks earlier so it gave me a reason to start in. I finished it last night.
I had read Kite Runner last year (or was it the year before??) and really loved it but sometimes second books don't live up to the first one. This one did!! Can't WAIT to discuss. In fact, after crawling into bed last night I wanted to talk all about it to my exhausted husband who tried his best to respond to my constant babbling.
Very few books make me cry no matter involved I am. This one did. Several times. I think the last book that made me really cry was Poisonwood Bible and I read that too many years ago to count.

Laundry Day

We're trying a new thing in our house. Monday is laundry day. We normally start laundry on Friday night and end up taking ALL weekend (sometimes into Monday night) so wrap it all up. I decided that is way too much time and we have to think about laundry all weekend and it eats at me. My new plan is to bust it all out in one day. Three weeks in we've done pretty well.

Maggie is SO helpful...

Weekend Review: Mommy Milestone

This weekend was the first time I've left my baby overnight. I was really worried about it but, surprisingly, I had a relaxing time and didn't have an anxiety attack and race home.

Friday night was a quiet night at home. Maggie spent lots of time playing with her dad.

Saturday morning I had a mild melt down and asked Patrick to take a pic of us--as if this would be the last one ever. Then I hopped in the car and headed up to Granby for a night in the mountains with my mommy friends. My friend, Vicki, has a cabin in Granby and she graciously offered to host us for the weekend so we spent the time chatting, playing games, eating, etc. Here's a picture of us by a local lake after dinner. Pretty, huh?

I tried to take a picture of the beautiful mountains on my drive home Sunday. Not the smartest idea considering the road was very steep and windy but it was just so pristine--the light dusting of snow happened while we slept. Luckily I did not get in an accident.
When I got home Sunday afternoon Maggie seemed mildly pleased to see me but obviously wasn't concerned about my absence. Why would she when she had a great time with her dad?

He had her dressed in her Cleveland Browns onsie. Leave it to him to dig out the appropriate outfit for her.See the football on the bum?
